Note to Villagers re: Bench

Dear all
Some of you will have noticed that the ‘sheep’ Bench in the Square has been removed.
Its removal was part of a plan by the Parish Council to refresh this area by swopping this
bench for the recently refurbished Village Queen’s Jubilee bench currently sited in the
recreation area. In a couple of years this swop process would have seen the ‘sheep’ bench
refurbished (it is showing signs of rot now) and returned to The Square and the Jubilee
bench returned to the recreation area.
No sooner than the first phase had been completed, and the sheep bench removed, there
followed a flurry of social media messages complaining about its removal …. and a lot of
angry words expressed. The Parish Council has received one written complaint which was
sent on behalf of a number of villagers.
This Parish Council works on behalf of all Preston Bissett villagers. On this occasion, despite
its good intentions, the bench swop plan was not communicated to you all ahead of the
sheep bench removal. We clearly got that wrong.
In response to all this, the Parish Council has decided to return the sheep bench to The
Square. This will be achieved by the end of this week.
